Another interesting ancestor is John West I, who served as acting colonial governor of Virginia from 1635 to 1637: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_West_(governor). John is also listed as a qualifying ancestor for the Jamestowne Society, which is a hereditary society for descendants of “early settlers who lived or held colonial government positions in Jamestowne, Virginia prior to 1700, or who invested in its establishment.”
West, John I – A8604; born 14 December 1590, died by 1659/60, West Point; Plantations over the water: 1628-30 (Burgess); 1631-59 (Councillor).
There are at least two other early Jamestowne settlers that I’ve found in the Martin side of the family tree, including John West’s mother-in-law, Anne Floyd. The other is Captain George Thomas Martin Sr. However, neither of these ancestors are listed as qualifying for membership in the Jamestowne Society.
